Michelle K. Chu, MD, FACS

Dr. Chu is a board-certified general surgeon who grew up in Northeastern Ohio and received her undergraduate degree from University of Pennsylvania. She then obtained her medical degree from Case Western Reserve School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. She completed her general surgery residency in Portland, Maine, and has been practicing in Reno since 2004.

Dr. Chu has extensive experience with advanced breast cancer treatment, offering a wide range of surgical options including oncoplastic breast conserving surgery, where plastic surgery techniques are incorporated to best preserve the natural shape and contour of the breast, and scars are often hidden. She performs nipple sparing mastectomies for appropriately selected patients, and works closely with experienced plastic surgeons. However, she also supports the Going Flat movement for those who are interested in aesthetic flat closures, and strives to provide the best possible outcome for each patient.

Dr. Chu has served as the Washoe County Medical Society president and has been a highly rated preceptor for medical students at the UNR School of Medicine. She is a longstanding member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons as well as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
